Stair is the spine of a family house. It can define the circulation and movement for family members. By redesigning and moving the stair, this house has achieved a Building Regulations compliant office room and bedroom above the garage, and a lobby full of natural light. Garage is converted into a flexible bedroom. A front porch extension is designed to provide a better landing and arrival space.
The extension has been carefully designed to have a setback entrance so that it doesn’t block direct natural light into the living room. It also recognises the existing geometries of the house, created by the two-storey bay windows, and celebrates the angle at each corner of the extension.
